Ultima Spes — A Rosary in the Midst of Unrest

There are times when the world feels unsettled.
Not in a way that can be clearly named,
but in a quiet, persistent sense that something is not as it should be.
A subtle unease, difficult to explain, yet hard to ignore.
This rosary began in that feeling.
An Uneven Prayer
Ultima Spes was not designed for perfect rhythm.
The stones do not align.
The spacing shifts.
The decades do not fall into equal measure.
Even the centrepiece and the cross are not perfectly aligned.
There is no smooth repetition here,
no gentle, predictable flow.
Instead, the rhythm falters.
It hesitates, breaks, and begins again.
Like a prayer spoken in uncertainty.
Materials That Carry Weight
Garnet, onyx, red agate —
stones of depth, of gravity, of unrest.
Silver sheen obsidian holds a colder light,
while fragments of white and clear beads remain within,
like something that refuses to disappear.
Not harmony,
but coexistence.
Not resolution,
but tension held in place.
Not Meant to Be Easy
This is not a rosary shaped for ease.
The irregular stones resist the fingers.
The rhythm does not settle into habit.
It asks something different.
To continue, even when the flow breaks.
To hold on, even when the pattern dissolves.
Not a prayer formed in stillness,
but one carried through unrest.
And Yet
What began as something darker
did not remain so.
The intention was to create something almost unsettling —
a reflection of confusion, of imbalance, of a world out of order.
And yet, as it took form,
something shifted.
It did not become gentle,
but neither did it remain harsh.
Somewhere within the unevenness,
a quiet stillness appeared.
Ultima Spes
“Ultima Spes” — the final hope.
Not a bright certainty.
Not a triumphant light.
But something quieter.
A hope that remains,
even when everything else feels uncertain.
Something that does not resolve the unrest,
but exists within it.
A Rosary for Such Moments
This is not a rosary for perfectly ordered prayer.
It is for moments when thoughts do not settle,
when words do not come easily,
when the heart remains unsteady.
And still,
the hands continue.
Bead by bead.
