Assumpta Caeli Rosary

There are pieces that stay in the mind for a long time before they are finally made.
This rosary began with such a piece —
an enamelled centrepiece I had been quietly admiring from afar.
The Beauty of Hand - Applied Enamel
The centrepiece and cross are made in Italy,
each decorated with enamel applied by hand.
It is a delicate process —
the colour is placed with precision, then sealed beneath a layer of resin,
giving both depth and quiet brilliance.
For a long time, I hesitated.
They were beautiful, undeniably so,
but also a little beyond what I would normally choose.
And yet, there are moments when a piece asks to be used.
This time, I chose to listen.
The Cross That Set the Direction
When the parcel arrived, it was the cross that held my attention first.
Refined, luminous,
adorned with small stones that catch the light without excess.
It felt complete in itself —
almost as though it could exist as a pendant.
From that moment, the direction became clear.
Lapis Lazuli — The Only Choice
There was no long deliberation over the stones.
It was, quite simply, lapis lazuli.
Its deep blue carries a sense of stillness,
a quiet depth that does not seek attention, yet remains unmistakable.
For centuries, such blue has been associated with the Virgin Mary —
a colour of the heavens, of reverence, of something set apart.
Placed beside the Assumption,
it felt not like a decision, but a recognition.
Light Within Blue
To accompany the lapis,
blue quartz and crystal were introduced.
Not to compete, but to allow the blue to breathe.
The crystal brings a gentle movement of light,
a quiet shimmer that shifts with each change of angle.
At the Our Father bead,
faceted crystal is framed with smaller cuts,
adding a subtle brilliance —
a reflection of the quiet splendour of the feast.
A Rosary That Rises
What emerged is a composition of blue and light.
Not a heavy blue,
but one that seems to hold light within it,
lifting rather than settling.
The enamel, the lapis, the crystal —
each element distinct, yet in quiet harmony.
Assumpta Caeli
A rosary of the Assumption.
A movement upwards,
towards light,
towards heaven.
Held in the hand,
it is a small, quiet gesture —
and yet, one that gently turns the gaze upward.
